Who Am I, O Lord God?
King David’s response to God’s incredible promise in 2 Samuel 7 is one of awe, humility, and worship. God promised that David’s throne would be established forever, but that promise pointed far beyond David himself. Centuries later, Matthew would identify Jesus as “the son of David,” revealing the fulfillment of God’s covenant in the coming of the true and eternal King.
The life of David reminds us that God’s purposes are sovereign, His promises are trustworthy, and His grace is greater than the failures of His people. David, who God said was “a man after my heart”, was still a flawed man, yet God used his life and lineage to point forward to Jesus Christ . . .
