The Gospel in One Minute
50+ Years of Preaching the Gospel Summarized in One Minute
Introduction
Many of you may have heard that expository preacher, John MacArthur, died this week at age 86. During his 5 decade career he taught Scripture to millions through taped sermons, radio broadcasts, Bible Commendaries, and a best selling study Bible.
MacArthur has said the most important mark of his ministry was that he explained the Bible with the Bible, not cluttering up sermons with personal stories, commentary on current events, or appeals to emotion, but teaching timeless truth. The longtime pastor of Grace Community Church said a good sermon should still be good 50 years after it is preached.
“I just really want to be known as someone who was a servant of the Lord,” he said, “faithful to the teaching of the Word of God and to the unfolding of the mysteries of the gospel of the New Testament.”
One of the tributes posted about MacArthur included a link to the video below in which John summarizes the gospel which he had preached for over 60 years in one minute. May his words bless each one of us with a greater understanding of the wonderful gift Jesus has blessed us with through His death on the cross.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”
