Today as we embark on a New Year, just a week after celebrating Christmas, I think it is beneficial to more deeply ponder the significance of the birth of Jesus some 2,000 years ago. Sadly the Christmas story has become so familiar that we often fail to be moved by it with awe and wonder. Philip Yancey notes this as well as he writes, “The facts of Christmas, rhymed in carols, recited by children in church plays, illustrated on cards, have become so familiar that it is easy to miss the message behind the facts. After reading the birth stories once more, I ask myself, If Jesus came to reveal God to us, then what do I learn about God from that first Christmas?”. . .
